Robert Smyth is a director and screenwriter whose work reflects his storytelling background. He began his career directing and producing music videos while ghostwriting for multiple directors, later branching out into commercial directing while continuing to write feature films. His most recent screenwriting work includes TUSK, the story of a young African poacher turned anti-poacher, and COLONY, a psychological thriller about the corrupting nature of jealousy and desire. Comfortable working with big personalities, Robert has directed Anderson Paak, Beyonce, Kanye West, and the It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia team of Glenn Howerton, Rob McElhenney, and Charlie Day, to name a few. Robert’s work with the Kings of Leon was nominated for Rock Video of the Year at the VMA’s and was lensed by Oscar-winning cinematographer Janusz Kaminski. Passionate about non-profits, Robert wrote and directed the short film HEY, CHARLIE an opioid film which is now shown annually all over the United States to raise awareness for the dangers of opioids. HEY, CHARLIE won a Clio for directing and was twice shortlisted for a Cannes Lion. He followed HEY, CHARLIE with the opioid documentary EMPIRE OF PAIN, which he also wrote and directed.
